The call too many leaders ignore

Why Listening to Your Emotions Is Strategic

Do you answer when someone calls you?

If someone stops you in the street, appears to know you, and seems to have something important to say, chances are you will pause and listen.

In your professional life, you do the same. If a key partner asks for a conversation, you respond.

But there are other calls, quieter, more personal.
And yet just as strategic. Sometimes even more strategic:

the call of your emotions.

The Invisible Call Most Leaders Ignore

These signals are meant for you alone, and they carry a valuable message. Yet we often leave them unanswered.

We work more. We rationalize. Perhaps we pour ourselves a drink.

It may feel easier in the moment, but of course it solves nothing. Because the call returns, through shallow breathing, tension in the stomach, or unusual irritability.

These signals are not signs of weakness.
These sensations are your allies.

They indicate the presence of a thought in the background that is not serving you. A sentence you keep repeating to yourself. A scenario you believe that ultimately works against you.

Moving Beyond Negative Emotions to Regain Clarity

Pause.
Identify the thought.
Question it.

That is how you answer the call.

This is not about becoming emotional. It is about becoming lucid.

A leader who pays attention to these internal signals gains clarity and acts, and decides, with greater accuracy.

Ignoring these calls does not make them disappear.
Ignoring them simply distances you from your potential.

The next time discomfort arises, instead of ignoring it or drowning it out, pause for a moment and ask yourself:

  • What am I thinking right now?
  • What are the sentences in my mind that are not serving me?

I support leaders in this demanding and strategic work: transforming emotional signals into valuable guides in service of their ambitions.
