You may think you’re at the office, at home, or on the move. But wherever you are, you are always in the same place: the present moment.
Always here. Right now.
Your mind can take you elsewhere—back to a past decision, ahead to a contract to sign, a negotiation to come. It can imagine what might go wrong.
Yet none of that exists right now.
The only thing that truly exists is this: you are here, in this exact moment.
Observe Without Interpreting
Right now, your body has a position. Certain parts are in contact with a chair, a backrest, a desk. Your clothes, or the air, touch your skin. Sounds reach your ears. Your eyes move across these lines. You are breathing.
Look around you.
You don’t see “a problem.” You don’t see “a delay” or “a loss.”
You see shapes, colors, volumes.
You perceive textures: smooth, cool, warm, soft, rough.
Before words, there is only this.
Imagine discovering this scene for the first time. As if you had just been placed where you are, without any words to describe what you see.
Without sentences in your mind, there is only a situation.
So, where are you?
A Strategic Reset for Leaders
At every moment, you are in the present.
And if you observe it closely, you will notice that it contains no problem, no crisis, no immediate threat.
It contains only a moment in which you are sitting or standing, surrounded by shapes, materials, and air.
That’s all.
Without interpretation, without thought, there is no problem.
Because thoughts create emotions.
And emotions influence your perceptions, your reactions, your decisions.
Returning to the neutrality of the present moment is a strategic move for any leader.
It allows you to disengage from the thoughts that create tension in the background:
“I’m not allowed to make mistakes.”, “Everything depends on me…”, “I’m not going to make it.”
Returning to the present means reconnecting with the calm from which your posture and your decisions are at their best.
It means regaining control rather than reacting.
The next time you feel pressure rising, simply ask yourself:
“Where am I, really?”
Come back here.
Breathe.
Recognize that in this exact moment, there is only a situation, and the possibility to respond to it.
