Un ouragan terrifiant avec des éclairs et un ciel sombre

When life suddenly turns upside down

How to regain control when everything feels like it’s falling apart

An unexpected medical diagnosis, an accident, the sudden loss of someone you love… Overnight, the life you knew comes to a halt.

Plans, routines, and certainties are put on hold.
Even what you once handled with ease, including your business, can suddenly feel heavier to carry.

We often believe we have control, or at least some form of mastery over our lives.
And yet, in these moments, it can feel as though everything is being driven by an external force.

A force that now seems to decide for you.

In these moments, emotions rise: anger, fear, sadness, shock. Sometimes guilt or regret quietly follows.

Everything feels uncertain, unstable, as if your inner compass has stopped responding.

If this is what you are experiencing, the challenge is not to wait for it to pass.

The challenge is to regain control, now.

What truly creates your emotions

Before anything else, it is essential to understand one fundamental point:

The emotions you experience are not created by the situation itself, but by the thoughts your mind generates about that situation.

Aside from physical pain, if you had no thoughts about what you are going through, you would not feel any emotional distress.

You would move through the experience, moment by moment, with far greater clarity than what fear, anger, or worry allow.

Why certain emotions pull you away from yourself

These emotions are often called “negative,” not only because they are uncomfortable, but because they take away your clarity.

They affect your ability to think clearly, make sound decisions, and act in alignment with your values.

When you lead a business, this loss of clarity directly impacts your decisions, your professional relationships, and your ability to carry your responsibilities.

Over time, it can distance you from yourself, from your capabilities, and sometimes from the people you care about.

Where your real power lies

The good news is this: these emotions are not triggered by the situation itself, but by your thoughts.

And your thoughts are something you can influence.

This is not about fighting your emotions or silencing them.
They carry important information and need to be acknowledged and felt.

Understanding the role of your thoughts simply prevents you from adding unnecessary mental suffering to what you are already experiencing.

Becoming aware so you don’t add suffering to suffering

When faced with a difficult situation, if you let your mind run unchecked, it will naturally generate scenarios that work against you.

What you need right now is not an inner opponent, but an ally.

And that ally is you.

The question that changes everything

It begins with something simple: becoming aware of what you are telling yourself.

When an intense emotion arises, ask yourself:

“What is the exact thought I am believing right now?”

Identify the sentence. For example: “I won’t be able to handle this.”

See it for what it is: a sentence produced by your mind.

Even if it feels true, it is optional. Other perspectives exist. Someone else, in the same situation, would think differently. You don’t have to hold on to it.

You can choose a thought that supports you, one that helps you face what is happening rather than weaken you.

In those moments, ask yourself:

“Am I helping myself or hurting myself by thinking this way?”
